BraCKBILL’S BLOG - 8/30/21

Welcome back to a fresh school year, friends. 2021-22 promises to be a magical year!

As a result of summer meetings with the Donegal Performing Arts officers and the Donegal Theater Community officers, we’re tackling this year with the theme Recruit. Rebrand. Rebuild. Like most schools around the country, we’ve graduated two senior classes without producing a normal spring musical. That means the juniors and seniors this year have never been part of a normal school production. Even though that idea is a bit absurd, we can see it as an opportunity. Who do we want to become? Which traditions should we carry on from years past, and which traditions can be left behind? What kind of name do we want to forge for ourselves as we move into a new era with fresh faces and fresh ideas?

Recruit

We’ll begin with Puffs this fall. The show was selected partly for its hilarious improvisational challenges and ensemble cast, but partly because it's about everyone’s favorite Certain School of Magic and Magic. It’s the first step of our recruitment: choosing a high interest show to bring fresh faces into our program.

The student officers have already attended all four class meetings to stir up hype for the club. They plan to visit every homeroom over the next week with handouts with QR codes that will direct them to the DPA membership form, the DPA instagram page, and to THIS BRAND NEW WEBSITE (!!!) for information about auditions. They are working on a recruitment video for the instagram page and will be making posters to hang around school to announce auditions.

We have a new backstage manager, production manager, and set designer/builder on the production team. We have four remaining hero parents who filled four of the five DTC officer positions. All the adult leaders are making plans to recruit more parent and community help! If you’re interested in volunteering, visit Volunteer Information to submit clearances and a quick application. Putting on quality plays and musicals takes an enormous team effort from all angles. Wouldn’t it be magical if our whole community wanted a hand in making the magic?

I’ll end on that question. This is a year about getting comfortable with open-ended questions. And I’m so excited to ask them with you.

Love,

Mrs. Brackbill
